Lygodium japonicum Planting and Cultivation Techniques

The maidenhair fern (Adiantum) prefers a warm, humid and shaded environment. It is not cold-tolerant; its growing room temperature is 14°C-22°C, and it should not go below 12°C when overwintering. It is suitable for fertile, loose, slightly calcareous sandy loam soil.

Propagation is mainly by division, which is best done in spring before it sprouts; simply cut its rhizome into sections for planting. During the growing period, keep the potting soil moist and the air humidity high, and place it in a semi-shaded spot for care; in summer, shade it even more. At the seedling stage, apply 1℃-2℃ times of dilute nitrogen fertilizer, and be careful not to contaminate the leaves. The average room temperature should be maintained at 18°C-22°C during the day and 10°C-15°C at night. In winter, the room temperature should be above 12°C to keep the leaves bright green; if it falls below 5°C, the leaves will be damaged by frost.
