The 2017 Pingtung Tropical Agriculture Expo kicked off lively on the 21st. The 23-hectare park includes 14 major themed areas, including a 3D totem colored rice paddy with the poster of the movie "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter", a fountain flower sea, a corn maze, and a 1,500-meter green melon and fruit corridor, opening the 38-day expo event. Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Meng-an invited people nationwide to come to Pingtung for a spring visit during the Chinese New Year holiday, saying they absolutely should not miss the tropical agricultural art atmosphere.
Magistrate Pan Meng-an said that Pingtung is a major agricultural county and an important production base for flowers, vegetables and fruits, and livestock and fishery products in Taiwan, China. This year, the expo park uses crops such as flowers, vegetables and fruits, rice, fruit, and miscellaneous grains as elements to compose beautiful edible landscape patterns, and presents the still of the movie "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" actress Milla Jovovich through multicolored rice paddies, making it the largest-scale landscape art in Taiwan, China. Together with the planned leisure agriculture area, food area, equestrian performances, and children's play area, it will be the best choice for family fun during the Chinese New Year holiday.
Magistrate Pan Meng-an then joined invited guests, including American Institute in Taiwan Kaohsiung Branch Office Director Du Weihao and several county councilors, in riding the park train for an early experience. Du Weihao, who was born into a farming family, praised farmers as the smartest group, and said he felt very honored to be invited to participate in the expo opening event after the inauguration of new U.S. President Trump.
The Pingtung Tropical Agriculture Expo runs from January 21 to February 28. Except for being closed on January 27, Chinese New Year's Eve, the park opens daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no admission fee. The park has 1,000 parking spaces, with a cleaning fee of 100 yuan for cars and 30 yuan for motorcycles. In addition, shuttle buses run to the park from Pingtung Railway Station, Tajen University of Science and Technology, and Liudui Hakka Cultural Park for people to ride.
