Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung Inspects Fish Market and Fruit and Vegetable Market: Sufficient Supply and Reasonable Prices

As the Chinese New Year approaches, Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung made consecutive inspections of the Taichung Fish Market and the Fruit and Vegetable Market early this morning (the 25th). In addition to gaining a first-hand understanding of the supply and sales of fish and produce for the Chinese New Year, he also extended early New Year greetings to the wholesalers and staff at the markets; he expressed approval that this year's prices and supply have remained stable, allowing citizens to enjoy the New Year with peace of mind.

At 4 a.m., Mayor Lin Chia-lung, accompanied by Taichung Fish Market Chairman Chen Pao-chen and General Manager Chen Hsien-min, inspected the fish auction operations and greeted each vendor one by one with New Year wishes, also showing concern for current supply volumes and market prices. At around 5 a.m., he moved on to the Fruit and Vegetable Market, accompanied by Taichung Fruit and Vegetable Marketing Co., Ltd. Chairman Tsai Cheng-lang and General Manager Weng Tien-man, to inspect the market auction operations; wholesalers said that the weather has been stable recently and produce supply is sufficient to meet Chinese New Year market demand.

Mayor Lin Chia-lung praised Fish Market Chairman Chen Pao-chen for actively strengthening coordination with production areas and frozen processing operators since taking office last year, meeting Chinese New Year fish demand, stabilizing overall fish prices, and further strengthening quality control of fish products.

Regarding the Fruit and Vegetable Market, General Manager Weng Tien-man pointed out that the daily average supply of fruit for the Chinese New Year is about 450-plus tonnes, with an average transaction price of about 55-60 yuan. Thanks to stable weather, vegetable supply is sufficient, with a daily average trading volume of about 150 tonnes and an average transaction price of 14-16 yuan per kilogram. During the New Year period, in addition to fruits with auspicious meanings, wax apples, jujubes, and snow pears are also selling very well.

The Economic Development Bureau stated that the city government began visiting various wholesale markets before the Chinese New Year to understand supply conditions, and the wholesale markets have also actively adjusted supply volumes, with brisk trading activity. The markets have also been asked to actively inspect prices to avoid artificial price manipulation. In addition to stabilizing fish and produce prices, this year the meat market has strengthened the allocation of pig sources to meet citizens' needs, with daily auction numbers recently at about 2,500-2,800-plus head and transaction prices at 72 to 76 yuan per kilogram, allowing citizens to enjoy a good New Year.
