How to plant dwarf lilyturf (Ophiopogon japonicus)? Detailed guide to cultivation techniques for the Chinese medicinal herb dwarf lilyturf
Strong seedlings are the foundation of high yields. Dwarf lilyturf seedlings of different quality have a considerable impact on rooting, tillering and tuberous root yield after transplanting. To comprehensively assess and take into account the quality of dwarf lilyturf seedlings, choose disease-free and pest-free strong seedlings that are short in stature, with dark green and lush leaves, a well-developed root system, 15 to 20 green leaves per plant, and a rhizome about 0.7 cm thick.
Seedling treatment must be done before planting. The specific method is: after lifting the dwarf lilyturf seedlings from the soil, first knock the soil loose; according to the usual requirements for dwarf lilyturf seedlings of leaving only the fibrous roots at the stem base at a length of 0.5 cm, or the stem base (commonly known as "chrysanthemum heart"), and leaves 5 to 7 cm long, cut off the tuberous roots and excessively long fibrous roots, and cut away excessively long leaves. Then separate them into individual plants; for biennial cultivation, select 10 to 15 individual plants according to the strong seedling standard, align the bases of the seedlings, and tie them into a bundle with a single straw rope to form a planting clump. Then place them on moist soil or soak the seedling roots in shallow water so they absorb enough water, and wait for planting.
