Introduction to the specific sowing methods for American ginseng

American ginseng is sown in spring and autumn.

1. Spring sowing: In Northeast China, it can be done in late April after the soil thaws. Spring sowing uses cracked seeds, and seedlings can emerge in early May. In other regions, sowing can be done earlier.

2. Autumn sowing: Carry out before the soil freezes. Depending on local conditions, the sowing method mostly uses a plant-to-row spacing of 5 cm × 5 cm or 5 cm × 6 cm. Method: Level the seedbed surface, then use a wooden dibber to press holes continuously starting from one end of the bed, sow 1 seed per hole, cover with 3-5 cm of soil, or sow directly with a seeder. After covering with soil, gently firm the bed surface with a board so the soil and seeds are in close contact.

For spring sowing, cover between the rows with rice straw to maintain moisture and temperature; for autumn sowing, cover with fallen leaves and put on cold-protection materials, remove the cold-protection materials the following spring, but still cover between the rows with rice straw.
