Green Energy Capital Yunlin County is actively promoting green energy and energy conservation. On the 23rd, a results presentation for the "Mercury Streetlight Sunset Plan" was held at the county government office. County Magistrate Lee Chin-yung stated that in 105 (2016), NT$600 million in subsidies was secured from the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, to replace streetlights with LEDs. In the future, once all streetlights are fitted with LEDs, it will save Yunlin County about NT$88.67 million in electricity costs each year, save 63.46 million kWh of electricity, equivalent to reducing more than 30,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, equal to the carbon absorption of 89 Daan Forest Parks. Yunlin, the green energy capital, is steadily advancing.
County Magistrate Lee Chin-yung pointed out that the county has more than 135,000 streetlights, of which 80,000 have already been converted to LED streetlights, accounting for 60% of the county's total streetlights. In the future, all traditional mercury streetlights in every township and city will be replaced, lighting up Yunlin and giving the people of Yunlin a bright road home in safety.
County Magistrate Lee Chin-yung stated that in response to the possible impact of LED streetlights on crop growth, shielding boards are used in agricultural production areas to improve the lighting angle and solve farmers' concerns. Requests raised by the public have been installed one after another. As of the end of January 106 (2017), a total of 2,275 shielding boards had been added, and the improvement effect after installation has been good. If farmers have further needs in the future, the county government will still provide shielding board installation services.
Lee Chun-li, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, stated that the Yunlin County Government team's highly efficient execution has put LED streetlight installation ahead of all counties and cities nationwide. The specially established smart streetlight management system has a numbered nameplate on each LED streetlight, printed with the 0800 toll-free reporting phone number and a barcode (QR code) for mobile phone scanning, making it a great model for streetlight management systems nationwide. The experience of the Yunlin County Government will be drawn upon to fully promote its use to all county and city governments.
