2017 Taiwan International Orchid Show grandly opens on the 4th in Houbi

"2017 Taiwan International Orchid Show" will grandly open from March 4 to 13 at the Taiwan Orchid Biotechnology Park in Houbi District, Tainan City! The Taiwan International Orchid Show has now entered its 13th year, and a different theme is planned each year, such as: 2013's "Bloom", 2014's "Amazing", 2015's "The Moment", 2016's "Qi Tian Brings Auspiciousness, Tainan Monkey Happiness", and this year's theme is "DISCOVER SUSTAINABLE ORCHIDS Tainan Orchids, Endless Life", innovatively introducing virtual reality technology, allowing the public to experience the world of orchids in another way through Cardboard VR, and planning four major exhibition halls, including the "Competition Hall", "Beauty Hall", "Happiness Hall", and "Future Hall", to make Tainan, the "Orchid Capital", continue to be the focus of the international flower market, leading the trend, and recreate Taiwan's orchid kingdom glory.

Mayor Lai Ching-te said at the press conference that this year's event is unprecedented in scale and worth everyone's visit and appreciation, and asked everyone to book tickets early; in addition, the orchid show actually supports four industries behind it. Besides the refined agriculture represented by orchids, there are also the biotechnology industry, cultural and creative industry, and tourism industry. Therefore, in addition to orchids, the content of the international orchid show also includes biotechnology and cultural and creative industries. The Tourism and Travel Bureau will also combine the orchid show with the tourism and travel sector, so that more friends from other counties and cities and from abroad can come to Tainan for orchid show-themed trips.

Mayor Lai Ching-te further stated that this year is very special, as it is organized by the Research and Development Foundation of Cheng Kung University, and it has also set four world records at the same time. First, this year's theme exhibition is the largest and best in history. Second, in previous years there were about one thousand competition flowers, but this year the competition flowers reached as many as two thousand. Third, this year there are five hundred new orchid varieties, which is also a world record. Fourth, according to statistics so far, the number of domestic registrations is 249 people, higher than last year's 79 people, and the number of foreign registrations last year was 50 people, while this year it has already reached 78 people.
