The lotus has been deeply loved by scholars and refined people since ancient times, so is there a miniature lotus that can be grown at home? The answer is definitely yes. Bowl lotus, also called bowl lotus, just from the name you can intuitively know it must be a mini lotus. In the hot summer, keeping a bowl of bowl lotus in the study adds a touch of cool Zen feeling.

So how do you grow bowl lotus? Below, Little Exquisite Life will learn together with you:

1. Scrape the seed coat and crack the shell

Bowl lotus is usually propagated by sowing seeds and dividing lotus roots. The root division method is very simple. Today we will mainly introduce seed propagation. After the bowl lotus seeds mature, they dry out and enter a dormant state. The shell is very hard. If you sow them without treatment, they will not rot even if buried underground for thousands of years, and of course they will not germinate. Therefore, before sowing bowl lotus, the shell needs to be cracked so that the embryo can receive enough water and oxygen to wake it from dormancy and allow it to germinate.

So how do you crack the shell of bowl lotus seeds? You can use pliers to crack a small opening in the shell on the end of the bowl lotus seed that has a small dent, or you can rub that end with the small dent on cement ground until the shell breaks. But be very careful: first, one end of the seed is the convex point and the other end is the concave point, and when cracking the shell you crack the concave end; second, you must not injure the embryo; third, do not remove the entire shell.

2. Soak the seeds to promote germination

Soak the cracked bowl lotus seeds in water at about 20-40 degrees, place them in a ventilated and shaded place, and change the water at least once every morning and evening. Basically, the seeds will germinate in about three days, and in five or six days the sprouts will grow very long. At this time, with a little sunlight, leaves will grow in eight or nine days.

After germination, the seed shell can be removed for cultivation. When removing the shell, please be careful not to injure the sprout.

3. Planting and raising seedlings

At this time you can find a suitable container, put in some soil and water, and transplant. When transplanting, press the roots of the small seedling into the soil, then add water. The water depth should preferably not submerge the leaves of the small seedling, then place it in an environment with plenty of sunlight and quietly wait for it to bloom. Note that although bowl lotus likes light, do not expose it to strong sunlight, otherwise it will scorch the young seedling.

4. Quietly wait for the flowers to bloom

Under suitable conditions, bowl lotus generally develops flower buds when it has 5-17 leaves. At this time you can take out your camera and take photos to your heart's content.

Special points to note:

1. The most important step in the seed propagation of bowl lotus is cracking the shell. The position of the crack, the size of the cracked part, and protecting the sprout while cracking the shell are all matters directly related to whether the bowl lotus seeds can germinate. So special attention must be paid here.

2. Purely water-cultured bowl lotus can survive, but if you want it to bloom, you must add soil to the bottom of the pot.
