Production management of Gastrodia elata cultivation in summer and autumn is very important
The summer and autumn seasons are exactly whenGastrodia elataenters its period of vigorous growth and maturation, and it is also a critical period for Gastrodia elata production management. If it is neglected or managed improperly, it will seriously affect the yield and quality of Gastrodia elata.
1. Drainage ditches for removing moisture. When Gastrodia elata enters its period of vigorous growth, you should begin checking whether the drainage ditches of the cultivation site are waterlogged and whether they flow freely. A soil moisture content of 60-65% is sufficient. The three months of July, August and September are the period when Gastrodia elata needs the most water. During this time, be sure to check and clear the drainage ditches promptly to avoid waterlogging.
2. Technical measures for mulching to retain moisture and lower temperature. For mulch, use fallen leaves of broadleaf trees (leaves of pine, cypress, camphor and other trees are also acceptable) and grasses, with thatch grass being the best; rice straw, corn stalks and the like can also be used.
3. Weeding and drought resistance. In summer and autumn, if drought occurs, weeds will evaporate large amounts of water, further worsening the drought and causing a shortage of water for the Armillaria fungus wood and Gastrodia elata.
4. Applying pesticides to prevent diseases and pests. For the prevention and control of Gastrodia elata diseases and pests, integrated control methods are mainly used. For example, replace the "three olds" (old fungus wood, old seed tubers, old planting pits) with the "three news" (new fungus wood, new seed tubers, new planting pits). If termites or other pests are found during inspection, use trapping methods to kill the pests. For example, bury pine wood beside the cultivation trenches or boxes to lure termites together and then kill them with pesticide.
5. Adding nutrients to increase yield. During the growth period, Gastrodia elata generally does not need nutrient application. In recent years, some people have poured potato liquid into the cultivation pits of Gastrodia elata and found that it can increase yield by 10-15%.
