Chunghwa Post Promotes Pesticide-Free Onions to Help Small Farmers

To encourage farmers to grow crops without pesticides and to assist the disadvantaged, Chunghwa Post has teamed up with small farmers to launch the "Hengchun Onion Gift Box" under the "Caring Agricultural Product Marketing" series on its postal mall, available from now until July 10. Each box contains 3 specially selected pesticide-free onions, specially made Japanese-style sauce and a seasoning packet. The original price is 280 yuan, with a special price of 210 yuan. For each box sold, an additional 10 yuan will be donated to the Hengchun Township Charitable Merit Association and the Pingtung County Social Assistance Fund special account in support of public welfare.

Chunghwa Post stated that to let consumers eat with peace of mind, it strives for "zero pesticide residue" in the onions, which have also obtained the "GAP" (Good Agricultural Practice) safe fruit and vegetable certification mark. In addition, to enhance the added value of the onions, it has specially cooperated with the Department of Food and Nutrition at Meiho University and Pingtung Prison to develop Japanese-style sauce and a seasoning packet in a golden ratio, using the highly acclaimed "Dingxin" soy sauce and soy sauce paste from Pingtung Prison as the base, to pair with fresh onions. The public can slice the onions into strips, wash them, chill them to increase their crunchiness, then drizzle on the sauce and sprinkle on the topping packet containing bonito flakes, seaweed and sesame to easily prepare a refreshing salad dish, putting the concept of "from farm to table" into practice. Those who would like to taste authentic southern Taiwan agricultural products are welcome to order on the "Post Mall" website (http://www.postmall.com.tw).
