"Not an ordinary flower's fate" - varieties like this are not limited to the ten-mile peach blossoms in Eternal Love. The clematis, hailed as the "queen of vines," may not be familiar to you, yet it possesses a great beauty that speaks not a word. "Tough as iron wire, blooming like a lotus," it is affectionately called "little iron" by plant enthusiasts, its beauty seeming to belong only to the heavens.

Clematis is incredibly tough and can be grown in both the north and the south, and it will cover your wall before you know it!

Clematis is a very easy plant to grow. It is easy to grow because clematis needs almost no fuss to thrive. Clematis is not demanding about its growing medium, and it is not necessary for everyone to use soilless mixes - it can also grow very well in soil, provided the medium drains well. Avoid heavy clay soil; heavy clay soil must be improved by mixing in some broken pot shards, perlite, foam pellets and the like to increase drainage. Filling the bottom of the pot with at least 5cm of large-diameter clay pebbles or brick and tile pieces is very necessary.

For routine watering, you can water only when the plant is fairly dry, which keeps the root system sturdy. My clematis sits on a south-facing balcony off to the side, so it can avoid the strongest midday sunlight. Even if it goes without water for a short time, the clematis will not have any major problems. If your clematis is grown in a spot with abundant sunlight and good open ventilation, still be careful not to let it go too dry. "Water when dry, dry out between waterings" is a very effective approach for growing robust-rooted flowering plants.

The late-flowering large-flowered types of clematis are beautiful too. Unlike the early-flowering ones, many varieties have extremely strong resistance, tolerate temperature changes better, bloom more profusely, and look even more magnificent at peak bloom. If you have a yard, you can plant clematis together with climbing roses. Climbing roses and clematis often form a stunningly beautiful combination, letting clematis and roses compete in a display of blooming splendor side by side.
