Yunlin County Government Heads to Taipei for Forward-Looking Public Hearing to Seek Water Environment Funding
Yunlin County Government Leads Delegation to Taipei Forward-Looking Public Hearing to Seek Water Environment Funding
Following the first public hearing on the 10th for the Forward-Looking Infrastructure Special Act concerning eight years and 880 billion yuan, county and city mayors will be invited today (the 12th) to attend the second hearing on the Forward-Looking Infrastructure - Water Environment proposal. Yunlin County Magistrate Li Chin-yung stated that the county government is sending a delegation led by Secretary-General Huang Yu-shuang to participate, and will present funding needs for urgent local construction projects, seeking central government funding support.
The Forward-Looking Infrastructure plan recently given preliminary central approval for Yunlin County includes the following water environment components: 1. The Yunlin Creek Douliu Bridge to Shekou section highlight plan at 620 million, 2. The Yiwu Detention Pond highlight plan at 115 million, 3. The Beigang Detention Pond highlight plan at 1,722.6 million, totaling 2,457.6 million yuan.
Magistrate Li Chin-yung stated that for a major agricultural county with large-area irrigation and drainage environment needs, the preliminarily approved funding is still insufficient. To promote the sustainable development of Yunlin's overall water environment ecology, the county government has begun planning an "Overall Drainage System Desilting and Flood Control Plan," comprehensively carrying out drainage system desilting and flood control improvements in areas where land subsidence has caused the original drainage channels to lose function and sediment to accumulate; it has also drafted the "Zhuoshui River Sand Interception and Greening Project."
Magistrate Li Chin-yung emphasized that the "Overall Drainage System Desilting and Flood Control Plan" and the "Zhuoshui River Sand Interception and Greening Project" are critical to county residents' lives, property safety, and quality of life. They not only affect a wider area but also benefit more people with more urgent needs. The county government will certainly present the construction blueprint at today's (the 12th) public hearing, convey the strong demands of local residents, and seek more local construction funding, hoping the central government will listen to the voices and expectations of the people in less advantaged counties and cities.
