2017 Taiwan Mazu Tourism Industry Culture Season - Miaoli Mochi Cakes in Prayer for Blessings
The "2017 Taiwan Mazu Tourism Industry Culture Season - Giant Peaches Offered for Longevity to Celebrate Mazu's Birthday" event kicked off on the 16th at Zhunan Longfeng Temple. The Miaoli County Pastry Commercial Association specially organized a free tasting event to promote "Miaoli Mochi Cakes," attracting many believers who brought their families to join in this lively Mazu Tourism Industry Culture Season and taste the most authentic local pastry delicacies.
County Magistrate Xu Yaochang also specially led Secretary-General Chen Binshan of the County Government, Director Peng Jishan of the Civil Affairs Department, and Deputy Director Wu Junxian of the Industry and Commerce Development Department to attend and offer congratulations. County Magistrate Xu Yaochang first expressed his gratitude to the Pastry Commercial Association for its enthusiasm and contribution every year, whether in assisting the disadvantaged or in religious blessings. This year at the Longfeng Temple Mazu Tourism Industry Culture Season, giant longevity peaches, baked five-animal offerings, and Miaoli mochi cake tastings were provided, along with many other delicious pastries, allowing the public on site to share in Mazu's blessings of peace. The Sun International Tongji Association also held an on-site Mazu sketching activity, hoping that through combining folk religious beliefs with the holding of a cultural festival, along with activities that attract public attention, culture can drive local industrial development.
Cai Qizong, Chairman of the Miaoli County Pastry Association, expressed his gratitude to the County Government for promoting the "Miaoli County Pastry Industry Upgrade and Local Ingredient Application Development Plan" since 104 (ROC year). Through exchanges between industries, training at pastry lectures, and industry-academia collaboration with young students, old pastry shops and emerging baking businesses in Miaoli County have strengthened their cohesion and enhanced their R&D and innovation capabilities, giving full play to "Hakka ciba" (mochi) and making "mochi cakes" a representative specialty pastry of Miaoli.
