Maritime New Southbound: Maritime and Port Bureau Holds Seminar to Assist Industry Operators in Moving Forward
On April 25 at 1:30 p.m., the Maritime and Port Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications held a seminar titled "The New Southbound Policy and Our Country's Maritime Development" in Conference Room B107 of the bureau, specially inviting experts and scholars familiar with domestic and international maritime trends to give lectures, with enthusiastic participation from all sectors.
Under the administrative vision of serving as a "provider of a sound maritime business environment," and in order to coordinate with the government's promotion of the New Southbound Policy and the opportunity to position itself in emerging Southeast Asian markets, the Maritime and Port Bureau specially invited Professor Lu Ping-yen of the Department of Public Administration at National Dong Hwa University, former Professor of Marketing and Distribution Management and Dean of the College of Business and Management Wu Jung-kuei of Taipei City University of Science and Technology, and Professor Tai Hui-huang of the Department of Shipping and Transportation Management and Graduate Institute at National Kaohsiung Marine University to serve as lecturers, speaking on ways to respond to our country's maritime New Southbound policy, and leading on-site guests in discussion to conduct deliberation and in-depth exchange.
Hsieh Wei-chun, Director-General of the Maritime and Port Bureau, stated that in coordination with the government's New Southbound Policy, the maritime sector naturally cannot stand apart. In order to promote the "maritime New Southbound policy" and create a new mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation model between entrepreneurs and the government, the Maritime and Port Bureau currently already has many responsive measures in place. At the same time, it is also actively seeking out representatives of the maritime industry, gathering the voices of industry operators, and striving to solve problems for operators at the policy level. In the future, it will move toward the role of integrator of maritime information under the New Southbound Policy, working together with all sectors of the maritime industry in a pragmatic manner, one step at a time, with the hope of establishing a "maritime community consciousness."
About 80 people participated on the day of the event, including representatives from Evergreen Marine, the Taiwan Global Logistics Development Association, the Chinese Taipei Pilots' Association, and international logistics companies, among other maritime industry leaders who joined in the event. In response to the southbound layout and development of the maritime industry, the Maritime and Port Bureau is committed to exerting national strength to assist the private sector in expanding its maritime footprint outward, so as to consolidate our country's position as an international maritime hub.
