Taipei Customs of the Customs Administration Holds a Seminar on "Gaining Advantage and Convenience for the Public"
Taipei Customs stated that "integrity-based customs" is a key focus of customs administration, and how frontline customs officers can, within the scope of lawful administration, provide the public and businesses with higher-quality and more convenient services is a primary issue. To create an honest and capable customs clearance environment, the Customs' Government Ethics Office held a seminar on "Gaining Advantage and Convenience for the Public" on the afternoon of May 17, inviting Chief Prosecutor Lin Hsiu-min of the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office as the speaker. In addition to the enthusiastic attendance of colleagues from all units of Taipei Customs, warehousing operators and customs brokers who frequently interact with the Customs were also invited to participate, with more than 100 people present to listen.
Chief Prosecutor Lin Hsiu-min has deep legal expertise and explained the difference between gaining advantage and providing convenience in an easy-to-understand way, using judicial practice cases for illustration. In addition to helping customs colleagues understand how to act boldly within the scope of the law while balancing the protection of their own rights and interests with improving service efficiency for the public, it also made the attendees feel they had benefited greatly. A prize quiz was also arranged during the session to enhance the effectiveness of the seminar and to help firmly establish concepts such as integrity and convenience for the public.
Taipei Customs pointed out that smuggling interdiction and border control are important work items of the Customs. Only when customs officers establish correct legal concepts, enhance their own legal knowledge, and thus act boldly, and when businesses also possess a high degree of anti-corruption awareness and give strong support and cooperation to integrity work, can an honest and transparent high-quality customs clearance environment be jointly created. The Customs has high confidence in the conduct and integrity of its officers and will continue to strengthen the promotion of the concept of integrity and capability.
