How to Store and Care for Fritillaria thunbergii? Practical Methods Explained
Fritillaria thunbergii is generally packed in gunny sacks, about 40 kg per piece. Store in a dry, cool place, with a warehouse temperature below 28°C and relative humidity of 65-70%. The safe moisture content for the commodity is 12-13%.
This product is prone to insect damage, moisture absorption and mold, and discoloration after long storage. The storage pests that cause damage include Stegobium paniceum, Lasioderma serricorne, Sitophilus zeamais, Tribolium castaneum, Bruchus pisorum, Mimthes rugicollis, and Oryzaephilus surinamensis, among others. Bore holes and boring dust can be seen on the surface of infested items, and when broken open for observation, live pests can be seen hiding inside.
During storage, regular inspections should be carried out, following the principle of “first in, first out” to prevent excessively long storage. Keep the environment clean and dry at all times. If moisture absorption, mild mold, or insect damage is found, dry in the sun promptly; in severe cases, fumigate with aluminum phosphide or methyl bromide. During hot and humid seasons, sealed oxygen extraction and nitrogen filling for maintenance gives better results.
