Seed Sowing, Seedling Raising and Transplanting of Schisandra chinensis

(1) Selection of the seedling-raising field The seedling-raising field should be a plot of loose, fertile humus soil or sandy loam, flat and sunny, with good drainage and irrigation conditions. Plow it, and while harrowing, apply farmyard manure at 1-2 tons/mu. Then make seedbeds 1-1.2 m wide and 15 cm high, rake the bed surface level, and sowing can begin.

(2) Sowing time and method Spring sowing is generally used. Sow treated seeds from mid-April to mid-May in drills with a row spacing of 10-15 cm and a furrow depth of 5-6 cm, at a sowing rate of 5-8 kg per mu, covering with soil 2-4 cm thick. After sowing, press down lightly and add a mulch cover to retain moisture and warmth.

(3) Seedling field management Seedlings emerge successively 20-30 days after sowing. When 50%-70% of the seedlings have emerged, remove the mulch cover and build a frame 1-1.5 m high, shading it above with straw mats or reed mats. Water when the soil is dry, keeping the soil moisture at 30%-40%. When the seedlings reach a height of 5-6 cm (2-4 true leaves), the shade mats can be removed, and the seedlings should be thinned to a spacing of 4-6 cm. They can be transplanted and planted out the following spring.

Transplanting of Schisandra chinensis

(1) Site selection Schisandra chinensis can be grown in garden fields or semi-wild in forest land. For garden field cultivation, choose fertile soil with a deep soil layer and good drainage, such as forest-edge land or farmland, preferably humus soil and sandy loam. After selecting the site, apply 2000-3000 kg of base fertilizer per mu, then level and harrow the soil finely ready for use. For semi-wild cultivation of Schisandra chinensis in forest land, choose a sunny slope with broad-leaved forest or mixed forest, where the standing trees are evenly distributed and the light-receiving area is large and the light duration is long. After slight clearing under the forest, removing shrubs or weeds, transplanting can be carried out.

(2) Transplanting The time is from late April to early May. With a row spacing of 1 m, running north-south, dig holes 30 cm deep and 30 cm wide, apply an appropriate amount of barnyard manure, and plant the seedlings at a spacing of 30 cm. After spreading out the roots, fill in the soil and firm it, then water thoroughly.
