Gaizi Chicken Breeding Technology

The Gaizi chicken, also known as the Vietnamese fighting chicken, is a medium-sized breed. Adult roosters weigh 6-7.5 jin, and adult hens weigh 4-5.5 jin. They have an upright body, well-developed muscles, hard bones, sparse feathers, red and thick skin, a small head with a thick neck, small but spirited eyes, and beaks that are mostly black or yellow. Let us take a look at Gaizi chicken breeding technology below!

★After Gaizi chicks hatch, they are generally not fed feed on the first day, only clean water is provided, and the environmental temperature is the same as for ordinary chicks. Starting on the second day, feed millet soaked in boiled water and cooked eggs, and a small amount of sesame soaked in water may also be fed. Starting on the third day, feed cooked eggs, millet soaked in boiled water, and fresh green vegetables as the main feed, and an appropriate small amount of insects and coarse grains may also be given. At this time, attention must still be paid to keeping warm, appropriate exercise, and sunlight, which are beneficial for their growth and development.

★After Gaizi chickens reach 30 days of age, the feeding amount of insects and coarse grains can be appropriately increased. At the same time, increasing time for outdoor exercise and sunlight exposure helps the chicks grow normally. Because various places prefer to hatch and brood chicks in early spring, attention must be paid to warmth retention during brooding and to changes in the weather. For the chicks to grow smoothly, folk practices also include adding light at night to extend the chicks' feeding time, which helps accelerate growth.

★At 45 days of age, Gaizi chicks can reach a weight of 0.5 kg, and male and female chicks are already easy to distinguish. At this point, males and females need to begin being raised in separate groups, which is beneficial for growth. Starting at 75 days of age, the chicks grow rapidly. Especially for bone growth, mineral feed (bone meal) and insects need to be added to the feed. Folk practices commonly include feeding cicadas, ground beetles, and locusts.

★When Gaizi chickens are raised free-range by farming households, each household generally keeps only 1-2 roosters and 4-6 hens. This raising method can ensure the purity of the offspring's bloodline and is also conducive to the separate training and management of roosters. As is widely known, the level of a fighting chicken's combat ability mainly depends on daily rearing and training.
