Three Methods for Propagating Pothos by Cuttings in Summer: Roots and New Shoots in 7 Days, a Full Pot in 1 Month

Pothos is a fairly common plant, kept by almost everyone. It is fair to say that pothos, as a potted plant that both beautifies the home and purifies the air, is understandably loved by all. But growing pothos is also a skilled task, and gardeners who want their pothos to stay green year after year need to put in a good deal of time and effort. Pothos is very easy to propagate, and there are many ways to do it. In summer, the three methods below are the ones we use most often. The pothos from these cuttings has a very high survival rate, roots and new shoots in 7 days, and a full pot in 1 month. Let's take a look!
1. Leaf cuttings
Leaf cuttings of pothos have relatively high requirements for soil and nutrients, otherwise rooting is not easy. The cutting soil should be loose, breathable and well-draining. The editor suggests gardeners use vermiculite or a mix of coir brick soil + perlite. Gardeners can also first water-propagate the pothos leaves for a while, and once the roots have grown, transplant them into a pot. This ensures the survival rate.
2. Root cuttings
When pothos is repotted, a lot of roots get trimmed off. Cut the trimmed roots into small sections about 4-5 cm long, and stick these sections directly into the soil. They will take root in three or four days, because the roots themselves are still active. Pothos propagated this way has a very high survival rate, and generally within a month it will grow into a full pot.
3. Stem cuttings
Stem cuttings of pothos are very simple to do. Cut the taken branches into small sections 4~5 cm long, keeping one leaf and one growth bud on each section, which is what helps them sprout and grow. Insert the prepared cuttings into the prepared soil, leaving one third of the cutting exposed, then water thoroughly. The cutting soil can be vermiculite or a mix of coir brick soil + perlite, with some decomposed bean cake added as a base fertilizer.
The editor shares a few tips from expert pothos growers: spray the pothos with monopotassium phosphate solution every month to keep it green long-term and even turn yellow leaves green again; dilute beer and water at a ratio of 1:50 and water the pothos with it to make it grow very vigorously; you can also wipe the pothos leaves with the diluted beer to make them glossy and shiny.
