Gardenia Yellowing Leaves After Repotting? This Is the One Thing Most Newly Bought Flowers Get Wrong

Recently, many gardening friends have left messages saying that their gardenias developed a lot of yellow leaves and leaf drop after repotting! Today I'll talk to you about: the problem of repotting gardenias!
First of all, a few days ago I told everyone that gardenias bought on the market come in two types of potting soil: one is grown in coconut coir or peat soil, and the other is grown in clay!
If the one we bought is grown in coconut coir or peat soil, and it is still blooming, then Chengcheng does not recommend repotting it right after bringing it home, because when repotting, no matter how careful you are, the roots will still be damaged to some degree. Once the roots are damaged, it will not only affect flowering, but also cause yellow leaves and leaf drop! So we had best wait until the flowers fade before repotting!
Secondly, if the gardenia you bought is grown in clay, it will probably be hard to grow well later if you don't repot it, so the only option is to change its soil and pot! But when repotting, it is best to use clean water to soak the original soil loose, so as to reduce damage to the roots as much as possible!
Also, the soil you change to must be loose, breathable and nutritious. You can use peat soil with a bit of perlite or river sand, or you can directly plant it in well-fermented pine needles!
Third, whether you repot after the flowers fade or repot right after bringing it home, never fertilize it when repotting, because the nutrients in the potting soil are temporarily enough to sustain its growth. If you fertilize it again, it will increase the burden on the roots, and at best cause yellow leaves and leaf drop, at worst possibly burn the roots!
In addition, if you repot after the flowers fade, then when repotting, we had best prune the branches a bit, cutting off all the overly dense and overly weak branches, so as to reduce its absorption of nutrients! After pruning, put a bag over the gardenia to keep it moist, then place it in a cool, ventilated spot, and in about a week it will recover!
