"Penghu Midsummer Night Fun" Finale Lights Up Guoye's Starry Sky

The finale of "2017 Penghu Midsummer Night Fun" grandly took the stage on the 17th at the plaza in front of Guoye Shengdi Temple. Brilliant fireworks plus spectacular song and dance performances attracted huge crowds and drew waves of gasps, bringing the Midsummer Night Fun event to a perfect exclamation point.

The 17th coincided with the consecration and blessing ceremony for the completion of Shengdi Temple. The temple held a large-scale Pudu blessing ceremony. At the 6 p.m. cup-tossing game, the first 150 participants all received blessing keychains from Shengdi Temple, in hopes of bringing good luck. At 7 p.m., trendy street dance performances, classic renditions of popular Mandarin and Taiwanese songs, and cool hip-hop dance performances instantly made the ordinarily quiet Guoye Village bustle with excitement.

Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu said that Guoye is the easternmost village in Penghu. When the weather is good, the sunrise glow over Alishan can often be seen, making it a village with distinctive features. He hoped that through holding this event, Taiwan could see a different side of Guoye Village, and he also welcomed everyone to visit Guoye more often.

Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu pointed out that, in order to promote Penghu's local fishing village harbor charm and temple culture, and to let people experience the religious activities at the three major harbor temples of Magong Suogang, Xiyu Zhuwan, and Huxi Guoye, the county government has held the Midsummer Night Fun event since June 29, successfully extending the appeal of the fireworks. Next, an island-hopping carnival will be held in August and September, and beautiful brilliant fireworks will be included with the themed events (August 19, August 28, September 2, September 11, September 22, September 30).
