Summer is here again, and the kaffir lilies, kalanchoes and geraniums in many flower lovers' homes have entered dormancy. However, quite a few flower lovers still have plants that bloom into balls of flowers in summer. Today, Huahua will share with everyone how to make them bloom into balls during dormancy!

Kaffir lily

The flowering period of the kaffir lily is concentrated in winter and spring. It enters dormancy when the temperature reaches around 28 degrees, but with proper care in summer, it can still bloom.

1. A cool, ventilated environment with scattered light

The kaffir lily does not like overly strong light, especially direct sunlight. Therefore, in summer it must be placed in a cool, ventilated spot, where scattered light is enough.

2. Double-potting and burying in sand to lower the temperature

The potting soil of the kaffir lily heats up quickly in summer, which can easily scorch the roots. So put the kaffir lily's pot inside a larger pot, or bury the whole pot in sand, and spray water on the sand every day. This keeps a relatively cool and moist environment.

3. Watering with rainwater to prevent root rot

There is more rain in summer. Collect and store it each time and give it to the kaffir lily; it can regulate the soil. Summer is hot and humid, so even if it is placed in a cool, ventilated spot, be careful not to let water accumulate, to prevent root rot.

4. Add fertilizer appropriately to promote flowering

If you want the kaffir lily to bloom, fertilizing is very necessary. As long as the temperature around the kaffir lily is around 25 degrees, it will not enter dormancy, and you can apply a thin cake fertilizer water about once every 15 days.

Kalanchoe

Kalanchoe is a flower with a very long flowering period. As long as its growth needs are met in summer, blooming is not difficult.

1. Control the temperature

Kalanchoe stops growing flower buds when the temperature reaches around 35 degrees, so if you want it to bloom, you must control the temperature. Those who can can put the kalanchoe in an air-conditioned room to stimulate bud growth.

2. Reduce the length of daylight

Keep the kalanchoe's exposure to sunlight to within 8 hours a day. When it is not receiving sunlight, the kalanchoe must be placed in an absolutely lightless, dark environment; even lamplight must not be present.

Flower lovers can place their kalanchoes side by side, put a chair with a backrest on each side, and drape a piece of opaque black cloth over the chair backs, letting it hang down to the ground. This both blocks the light and leaves ample space for the kalanchoe's top growth to develop.

3. Control watering

Water evaporates vigorously in summer, and many people cannot control their hand at watering flowers. But kalanchoe leaves are very thick and fairly drought-tolerant, so in summer there must not be too much water. Just water thoroughly after the potting soil turns pale.

Geranium

Geranium is the flower most likely to blacken at the stem and die in summer. Make a list of flowers that are sure to die in summer, and geranium will definitely be on it. But with proper care, geraniums will not only survive summer but also bloom as usual.

1. Add water to the tray to prevent black rot

Watering in summer is the key to geranium survival. After seeing the potting soil turn dry, fill the tray with water, and the geranium will absorb the water automatically. This watering method can effectively prevent black rot in geraniums.

2. Shade and ventilate

Geraniums fear damp heat the most, so in summer it is best not to put geraniums on a closed, unventilated balcony. Flower lovers who can can put geraniums under tree shade without light, where the temperature is generally much lower than in the light and the ventilation is also good.

3. Be careful to avoid rain

Upright geraniums will surely die if exposed to rain. Flower lovers who grow geraniums outdoors must remember to move them back indoors during rainy weather, or take good rain-shelter measures.
