2018 Flora Expo in Taichung: Houli Park Area Embodies the "Flora Reveals GNP" Spirit of the Three Lives

Construction of the Houli Park Area for the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition is proceeding steadily, implementing the "Flora Reveals GNP - Green ecology, Nature production, People living" spirit of the three lives at every level. The forest park area is being converted from an idle military camp, preserving the existing large trees to form a symbiotic ecology, using local materials for resource reuse, and also increasing the greened water area and its educational function; the horse ranch park area is being reshaped from the old horse ranch space, combining Taiwan orchids, iron horses (bicycles) and fine horses to showcase local characteristics and create a diverse cultural atmosphere.

The Taichung City Construction Bureau stated that the land for the Houli Forest Park Area was a military camp built in the 50th year of the Republic of China era (1961); during the period when it was idle, the trees and vegetation planted by the military had already formed a diverse natural ecological space through the process of natural succession; the city government is preserving the existing trees, maintaining the original terrain, and planning an "International Garden Exhibition Area", inviting countries to apply for exhibition spaces and combining them with Taiwan's local landscape to present the beauty of horticultural culture.

The Construction Bureau pointed out that the horse ranch park area is being reshaped and renovated from the old horse ranch space, preserving the historical texture as the cultural foundation of the Flora Expo, and renovating the horse ranch's related facilities, building the main space of the Floral Splendor Pavilion to hold international indoor floral competitions, and outdoors combining architecture with landscape. The large ecological detention pond green area is designed with a low-impact concept, can be used for various performances and activities during the exhibition period, and also respects environmental sustainable development, hoping to let visitors roam freely in an atmosphere featuring the local cultural characteristics of orchids, iron horses (bicycles) and fine horses.

The Flora Expo runs from November 3, 2018 to April 24, 2019. This grand event will leave valuable assets for the local area. The city government invites everyone to come together to "listen to the sound of flowers blooming."
