2017 Taitung Slow Food Festival kicks off, Magistrate Huang Chien-Ting calls for savoring more local flavors

Bringing together "deliciousness, art, and diversity," the Taitung Slow Food Festival's first event, "Slow Flowers and Fruits," kicked off with great fanfare at 3 PM on 7/22 (Sat) and 7/23 (Sun) at the Tiehua New Settlement in Taitung. More than thirty vendors from townships across Taitung served their signature dishes under the theme of "eat seasonal, eat local" in an atmosphere crafted by artists, along with "Slow Food Talks" exploring Taitung's culinary culture and foodways.

Taitung Magistrate Huang Chien-Ting joined the public in a fun, energetic "Slow Food Workout" and personally led people in tasting local seasonal delicacies. Magistrate Huang Chien-Ting said that this year's dishes were all new dishes and new recipes never tasted before, and the public, eating their fill, exclaimed, "This is the most delicious and most fun event in Taitung," also feeling that the organizers' promotion of bringing your own tableware was very meaningful for environmental education.

This event will run for two consecutive days, and the overall series also includes five different themed events: Slow Chicken, Slow Coffee, Slow Grains, Slow Wine Brewing, and Slow Seafood, which will be rolled out one after another. In addition, before 8/30, the public can bring the "Taitung Slow Food Festival Passport" to spend at stores that support the slow food concept and take part in a stamp-collecting prize redemption activity. The Taitung County Government welcomes everyone to join in.

Since 2012, the county government has promoted the "Farm-to-Table" brand, starting with guiding stores in the Rift Valley. Since 2015, it has continuously held "Seasonal Table Festival" events to promote the concept of "eat local, eat seasonal," and it has now become a well-known local brand in Taitung.
