Many flower enthusiasts fail to grow flowers well once summer and winter arrive, because some flowers cannot adapt to the growing environment when summer or winter comes, and so all kinds of symptoms appear, and they may even face death. So, when growing flowers at home in summer and winter, you must master the care methods in order to let the flowers and plants at home grow healthily and safely get through the hot summer and the severe cold winter.

In summer, because the temperature is high and the sunlight is strong, when the temperature reaches over thirty-odd degrees, the root system itself already has great difficulty regulating, and at this time the branches and leaves also need a large amount of water and nutrients; by then the root system no longer has enough ability to transport water and nutrients to the branches and leaves, which often causes the branches and leaves to dehydrate and dry up, and in serious cases they may even die of heatstroke. So how can you keep flowers from suffering the harm brought by high-temperature weather? Most indoor flowers are placed on south-facing windowsills or balconies, and although some flower enthusiasts take shading measures in high-temperature weather, the temperature is still very high. If conditions allow, you can move the flowers to a cool place outdoors; if conditions do not allow, you can move the flowers on the windowsill to the ground, and place several basins filled with water around them, which can lower the ambient temperature and increase the humidity in the air, and at the same time spray the branches and leaves with water in the morning and evening so that the branches and leaves can absorb enough water.

The most important things in summer flower care are preventing heatstroke and lowering temperature and watering; do these two things well and the plants can safely pass the summer. Summer weather is hot, and the greatest taboo in flower care is watering at noon, because at this time both the soil and the flowerpot temperature are very high, and watering then easily makes the root system unable to bear the huge temperature difference and suffer damage, causing the branches and leaves to turn yellow and shrivel; therefore, watering at noon in summer is not advisable, and watering should be done in the morning and evening. In summer, because the weather is stuffy, hot and humid, flowers most fear poor ventilation, and pests and diseases are also most likely to occur; therefore, the growing environment must have good ventilation to reduce the occurrence of disease. In summer most flowers have already entered a dormant or semi-dormant state, and at this time all fertilizing should be stopped to ensure the flowers safely pass the summer.

In winter most indoor environments become dry, but most flowers also like a moist growing environment; therefore, when growing flowers indoors in winter you must ensure the ambient air is moist, and you can increase the humidity in the air by methods such as spraying water to add moisture. But in winter, spraying or watering should be chosen to be done at noon, because winter temperatures are low, and watering or spraying in the morning and evening tends to make the water on the branches and leaves remain for too long, easily causing the leaves or leaf centers to rot. In winter flowers grow slowly and have very little demand for fertilizer and water; therefore, in winter no fertilizer needs to be used at all, and it is best for watering to lean toward dry to prevent overwatering. In winter, indoor temperatures can generally reach the conditions for plant survival; if the temperature is too low, you can take measures such as putting convenience bags over the flowerpots to keep them warm, so as to prevent the branches and leaves from freezing.
