I was pulled into the Aeonium pit by my cousin back in China. At the time we were both beginners, buying all sorts of things and collecting all sorts of things. When my cousin took a fancy to an Aeonium, I would usually ask her to buy an extra one for me. Unfortunately, buy them we did, but they couldn't be brought out of the country. Now my cousin has set up her own Aeonium greenhouse, while I'm still struggling as a balcony grower.
This is the first Aeonium I won in an auction on Yahoo. At the time, Halloween was still a rare newcomer and very hard to find. It took me over 2 hours of bidding to get it.
I'm so glad I managed to win it. Look at how well this little guy is doing - it keeps getting more and more beautiful!
I couldn't stop taking photos from every angle
The Aeonium with yellow variegation that my cousin gave me
It has grown a lot, with a ring of little heads at the bottom - a future bouquet.
And the Echeveria 'Yulong Guanyin' my cousin gave me
Its current form is truly enchanting.
How it looked just after settling into the pot
How it looks now - the more I look, the more I like it
Another Halloween
This is how it looks now. I won't post the comparison photos - there are too many, and just finding the pictures is hard work.
I probably have more than 20 varieties of Aeonium, so I won't post pictures of them all.
When I was obsessed with Aeonium, I also fell into the Sedum pit at the same time, hunting for all kinds of shops and going to greenhouses to buy, buy, buy. The little white bear paw I just bought
has now become plump and chubby.
The Echeveria 'Furong Xuelian' I just bought
How it looks now
I got it in the winter of 2016. After a clueless me potted it up, I just tossed it onto the balcony. It didn't settle into the pot all winter and only grew roots in spring.
It has also become incredibly beautiful.
And this Echeveria 'Violet Queen'
It truly lives up to the name of queen.
Now here's a batch of my current succulents. Some of the beautiful shots were taken for me by Xixi.
As I kept buying Sedums, I eventually fell into the Haworthia pit. Each pit really is deeper than the last. A good Haworthia feels so expensive. Unfortunately, the more you like them and the more you understand them, the more expensive the things you buy...
Then I went to an international succulent show somewhere in Japan and bought my first Haworthia cooperi from Mr. Sakai's place
Some of the Haworthias at the show:
This is the second beloved Haworthia cooperi I bought. From then on there was no stopping me - I always felt I was missing one kind of cooperi and kept buying nonstop. As for my experience of falling into the Haworthia pit, if everyone likes it, I'll write a bit about it slowly in the future. That's all for today! Writing is too hard on the eyes!
