Economic benefit analysis of growing chili peppers: How much money can you make per mu of land?

The economic benefits of growing chili peppers

Before the development of chili pepper cultivation, chili peppers were generally grown in the open field, sown or transplanted after frost, and harvested from early summer until the arrival of the first frost. With the improvement of protected cultivation techniques, protected cultivation of chili peppers has also developed greatly, such as small arch shed cultivation, plastic greenhouse cultivation, solar greenhouse cultivation, etc. Therefore, in many regions across the country, by combining open-field and protected cultivation and coordinating various cultivation crop cycles, year-round production and year-round supply of chili peppers can be achieved. The yield levels and benefits of chili peppers vary greatly among different cultivation methods and different crop cycles. For example, for open-field cultivated chili peppers, the yield per mu is generally 3500-4000 kg, and the income per mu is 1500-2500 yuan. For overwintering protected cultivation chili peppers, the yield per mu is 4500-5000 kg, and the income is 6000-8000 yuan.

At present, the main problems in chili pepper production in various regions are as follows. First, the yield of open-field chili pepper cultivation is unstable. In hot and dry years, the damage from chili pepper viral disease in some areas is severe, with an incidence rate of over 50%, or even total crop failure. Second, during the chili pepper harvest period, when high temperatures and drought occur, the proportion of rotten fruit and stiff fruit is high. Third, the phenomena of flower drop, fruit drop, and leaf drop in chili peppers are still widespread. In order to achieve year-round supply of chili pepper products, various regions in the north have used various protective measures in recent years. In spring, chili peppers can be harvested and brought to market earlier, and in late autumn and early winter, growth can also be delayed, increasing yield and economic benefits. With overwintering cultivation in solar greenhouses, the yield can reach over 4000 kg.

Because chili peppers are relatively tolerant of transportation, chili pepper production bases can be established in suitable areas, making full use of local natural resource advantages, reasonably arranging production, and through preservation and trans-regional transportation, meeting the demand for year-round supply in various regions.
