Yunlin County and the Yunlin Natives Association of Keelung City Participate Together in the Zhongyuan Festival

The Keelung City Government holds its annual major event, the "Keelung Zhongyuan Festival" water lantern parade. After Yunlin County was invited last year to promote the 2017 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Yunlin with a lantern float, this year the county government again cooperated with the Yunlin County Natives Association of Keelung City to present one "Sensation in the Martial World - Home of Puppetry" float and one huagu drum troupe to join the water lantern parade. Yesterday (the 4th), County Magistrate Li Chin-yung and Wu Wan-chu, chairman of the Yunlin County Natives Association of Keelung City, led fellow natives in taking part together in the Keelung grand event, promoting and marketing Yunlin County and showcasing its local cultural characteristics.

County Magistrate Li Chin-yung said that Yunlin is the hometown of glove puppetry. This year, together with the Yunlin County Natives Association of Keelung City, they presented the "Sensation in the Martial World - Home of Puppetry" float in the parade, mainly featuring glove puppets such as Shih Yen-wen, Hei Bai Lang Jun, Su Huan-chen, Huwei Tiger, and One Page Book, so that people across the country, upon seeing the glove puppetry float, would think of Yunlin County.

The "huagu drum troupe" is one of the most energetic and dynamic types of procession formations in Baozhong Township, Yunlin County. It centers on striking gongs and drums and running and leaping, emphasizing the team's collective steps, performance postures, and uniform movements to form a performance formation full of rhythm and the beauty of movement and posture. As a performance-style folk art, it is also one of the traditional cultures of rural areas.
