Cooperative in Gangcheng District, Laiwu City: Scientific intercropping boosts farmers' income

On June 19, a reporter saw at the Darun Fruit Professional Cooperative in Gangcheng District that the intercropped potatoes had yielded a bumper harvest.

It is understood that the cooperative actively guides local people to grow high-efficiency crops such as high-quality potatoes and Salvia miltiorrhiza (red sage) as well as apples according to local conditions, and by using the three-dimensional cultivation method of intercropping potatoes in apple orchards, it has achieved a "double harvest" both above and below the trees. It has now developed 270 mu of potato planting, with an annual output of 700,000 jin. It is reported that the cooperative has 117 member farming households and has provided employment for more than 200 surplus rural laborers.
