Yunlin County's Agricultural Output Value Tops the Nation Again

The Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics of the Executive Yuan released the 105th year (2016) survey of agricultural, forestry, fishery and livestock output value for all counties and cities across Taiwan, China. Yunlin County's total agricultural output value was latest announced at NT$77.75 billion, accounting for about 15.1% of the nation's total output value. Under the leadership of County Magistrate Lee Chin-yung, it has once again ranked first nationwide. County Magistrate Lee Chin-yung stated that Yunlin County is a major agricultural production county in our country, with nearly 40% of the population employed in agriculture. After taking office, he declared that on the foundation of being the agricultural capital, he would lead Yunlin County toward Agricultural Capital 2.0, seeking steady transformation to achieve the goal of living and working in peace and contentment. With agricultural output value now ranking first, Yunlin County's important position in agriculture is further consolidated, and this also affirms the hard work of the county's farmers.

Yunlin County's total agricultural output value grew by NT$4.8 billion compared with the previous year (the 104th year, 2015), a growth rate of 6%, making it one of the few major agricultural counties and cities nationwide that still achieved growth. Analysis suggests this may be due to last year's typhoons and generally unstable weather throughout the year, which led to generally poor agricultural harvests; nevertheless, Yunlin County still held its base and achieved slight growth, which is truly not easy.

County Magistrate Lee Chin-yung pointed out that Yunlin's agriculture will play an even more important role in the future, seeking business opportunities that can be linked with Southeast Asian countries, and through deepening various agricultural education resources, continuing to attract young farmers to develop in Yunlin County. He also wants to attempt an agricultural industry revolution - through the introduction of smart technology, continuously strengthening production, processing and cross-industry integration, making agricultural production more efficient in the future and becoming a new engine for growth in agricultural output value.
