Planting technology lectures draw enthusiastic response, farmers eagerly participate
Tianshan Net news (reporter Yang Shuhan) On the morning of April 2, at the edge of the fields in Gulubashi Village, Kezilesu Township, Jiashi County, nearly a hundred farmers gathered in a circle to listen to Lu Chunsheng, a prune planting research expert from the Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural Sciences, explain techniques such as pruning, grafting and water and fertilizer management. Everyone was extremely eager to learn, and some even took notebooks and carefully took notes. "It turns out there is so much to pay attention to in pruning, watering and fertilizing. I finally found the reason why my family's yield has always been lower than others'!" After listening to the lecture, villager Ainiwaer Abulaizi, who has grown prunes for two consecutive years, suddenly saw the light.
Jiashi County has a uniquely favorable climate and environment, extremely suitable for cultivating prunes. Since their introduction in 2004, the promoted planting area of prunes has reached 200,000 mu, becoming the local farmers' most promising channel for increasing income and becoming wealthy. However, because farmers planted according to traditional methods, the techniques were relatively backward, affecting the quality and yield of the prunes. The experts' on-site teaching in the fields delivered a timely "rain" of technology to the villagers.
In order to improve traditional planting methods and help farmers increase production and income, the "Visiting the People, Benefiting the People, Bringing People Together" work team of the Autonomous Region Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development stationed in Kezilesu Township, Jiashi County, specially invited experts from the Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural Sciences and held 7 agricultural planting technology lectures for villagers throughout the township, attracting more than 2,200 participants.
In early spring, when the wheat fields of Kezilesu Township had just turned green, experts and professors from the Grain Crops Research Institute of the Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural Sciences had already held 4 consecutive special lectures on wheat planting technology. In the fields, the experts casually selected wheat seedlings that were growing well, average and poorly, and from scientific seed selection, spring harrowing management, topdressing and irrigation, weed control, pest and disease control, and harvesting and storage, they comprehensively taught the farmers scientific wheat planting techniques and methods, winning unanimous praise from everyone.
Jiashi melons from Jiashi County are renowned nationwide, and the current planting area has exceeded 200,000 mu. Just as spring plowing began, Aierken Yasheng, a Jiashi melon planting research expert from the Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural Sciences and a doctorate holder who studied in Japan, was invited to rush to Kezilesu Township to teach Jiashi melon planting techniques to more than 200 growers throughout the township. Combining research results with the local natural environment and planting experience, the expert explained in detail to the farmers the knowledge of Jiashi melon breeding technology, planting and cultivation, and pest and disease control. Facing the urgent problems raised one after another by the farmers, the expert answered patiently and meticulously.
Cai Qiming, chief leader of the "Visiting the People, Benefiting the People, Bringing People Together" work team of the Autonomous Region Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development stationed in Kezilesu Township, Jiashi County, said: "By inviting experts from the Academy of Agricultural Sciences to serve farmers at their doorsteps and teach them hand by hand, bringing new planting concepts and practical techniques to everyone, the farmers' confidence in relying on science and technology to increase income and become wealthy has grown stronger."
