Growing scallions in flower pots on the balcony: a single scallion can grow into a big potful, ready to harvest in 20 days

Growing some vegetables on the balcony is nothing new anymore. As long as there is 4-8 hours of light, growing some vegetables is still a good choice. Growing vegetables just requires being diligent; remember to water every day when you get up, and if the soil is fertile enough you basically do not need to fertilize at all, which is much simpler than growing flowers.

Buy some fresh scallions directly at the vegetable market, then break the whole scallion apart, separating it into individual cloves; this is the correct way to plant scallions. Generally, one can grow into dozens of plants. If you plant the whole thing, not only will it grow poorly, but you will basically get no harvest, as it will grow extremely densely and cannot survive.

After that, prepare a wide plastic container; as shown in the picture above, this is a common balcony vegetable growing container, very convenient. Prepare loose potting soil, mix some decomposed organic fertilizer into the bottom, make sure the bottom has fairly large drainage holes, and it is best to prepare a tray, otherwise water will drip directly onto the floor below.

Day 1 record:

The scallion cloves have just been planted, so no change can be seen. The growing environment is around 21°C, with 5-6 hours of light each day. The soil is loose and fertile, and drainage is fairly good, so growing vegetables is no problem at all.

Day 8 record:

You can see that most of the scallion cloves have sprouted small shoots and are growing lushly. In some spots the seedlings are not growing well. When first placing the scallion cloves, two cloves were planted in each spot to ensure the survival rate of the seedlings.

Day 10 record:

Ten days after planting, the scallion seedlings have already grown very well and are fairly neat overall. Continue watering every day, using tap water that has been left to sit for 2-3 days, and of course some rainwater is also stored for watering the vegetables.

Day 20 record:

Twenty days after planting, these scallions can basically be harvested once for their leaves. After the leaves are cut, they can still grow back again, isn't that great?

When you have time, you can try growing some potted vegetables yourself; generally they can be harvested in about a month, with a full sense of accomplishment.
