A Thousand People Roll Tea at Nantou Tea Expo, Opens on National Day

One of the highlights of the Nantou World Tea Expo, the "A Thousand People Rolling Tea" event, continued last year's huge popularity and took place on the 10th at the large field in Zhongxing New Village, where a thousand people rolled tea together to celebrate National Day, and the grand scene brought the tea expo to another climax. Magistrate Lin Ming-chen said that people taking part in the A Thousand People Rolling Tea event could not only take home the tea they rolled themselves to brew, but the event also gave away 1,200 cups as souvenirs; whether the 700 places for advance registration or the 300 places for on-site registration, all were filled within a short time, making the scene quite spectacular.

Many people know how to drink tea, but not necessarily how to make tea, nor do they understand the tea-making process. The A Thousand People Rolling Tea event used small-leaf tea leaves produced in Nantou to let everyone learn about the tea-making process. At the event, Magistrate Lin Ming-chen, county councilors Hsiao Chih-chuan and Tseng Chen-yen, Nantou County Farmers' Association director-general Tseng Ming-jui, and Shuili Farmers' Association director-general Chang Chi-chuan and others demonstrated on stage how to roll tea, while the participants below, adults bringing children, knelt and sat on the ground to experience the fun of rolling small-leaf black tea.

Magistrate Lin Ming-chen said that the Nantou Tea Expo has already attracted more than 150,000 visits to taste fine tea, and the tea sales results have also left tea merchants very satisfied. So far nearly 20 million yuan worth of tea has been sold, with revenue much higher than at their own shops, so 300 booths still cannot satisfy Nantou's tea merchants, who all suggest expanding the event next year. This shows that the event not only drives local development but also promotes the sales of tea and agricultural products. The county government will study whether to expand the event while maintaining quality.

Councilor Tseng Chen-yen said that last year's tea expo still attracted more than 450,000 visits despite the hot weather, and if the event could be extended to the cool evening hours until 9 p.m., it might attract even more crowds and bring more business opportunities.
