Since its establishment in 2009, the Fudong Agricultural Machinery Cooperative has focused on growing corn for 9 consecutive years. Through improving varieties and introducing advanced cultivation techniques, it has become a model of modern agricultural planting in Xiaoyi City. This year, the Xiaoyi City Agricultural Technology Center strengthened its services, helping the cooperative adjust its planting model and change its planting structure, and paying close attention to the growth of corn at every stage to ensure stable corn production without reduction.
This period is the critical stage of corn jointing. The recent continuous high temperatures have caused severe drought stress on corn that is at a key growth stage. In response to the adverse effects of high temperature and drought on crop growth, the Fudong Agricultural Machinery Cooperative urgently took effective measures to replenish water for the farmland.

The water is diverted from the Fen River, crosses the Wenyu River, and is used for irrigation through U-shaped channels. Looking at the condition of this corn, it is already quite dry, much drier than last year. Right now is the most critical jointing stage for corn, and it needs water. If we irrigate all of it once, there will be no problem with the yield.
The head of the cooperative said that the cooperative now sends out 20 to 30 people every day, and on average can irrigate more than 200 mu a day. It is expected that in one month, the cooperative can complete irrigation of about 7,000 mu. To ensure corn yield and benefits, replenishing water is one aspect. During this year's corn sowing season, the city Agricultural Technology Center helped the cooperative adjust the corn planting structure and methods, greatly reducing planting costs.

In the past, we only planted corn. This year, we intercropped beans and corn, planting more than 1,000 mu. The most critical thing after that was adjusting the seeder so that the distance between seeds and fertilizer is just 6 to 7 cm. After the corn emerges and grows to more than one chi tall, it can all take up the fertilizer. In this way, applying half a bag of fertilizer is equivalent to applying one bag of base fertilizer in previous years, and the investment has come down.
It is understood that this year Xiaoyi City planted a total of 150,000 mu of corn. To ensure stable and abundant corn production, the city Agricultural Technology Center pays close attention to agricultural conditions, actively provides services, and promptly issues relevant information to help growers solve difficulties in the production process.

Where there is no water, we should combine intertillage and weeding to reduce water evaporation from the soil and alleviate the drought stress on corn as much as possible.
