These days he is busy in the field harvesting this year's garlic. Because his own family did not have enough hands, he specifically paid several people to help. In 2016, Wang Zhenrong planted 5 mu of garlic. Despite it being only 5 mu, the output value was equivalent to 20 mu of peanuts. It was last year's 5 mu of garlic that let him taste the sweetness of success, and this year he increased the planting area to 10 mu. Zhao Yuqin, Party branch secretary of Xinglongdian Village, introduced that in order to change the planting structure, Xinglongdian Village began trial planting a small amount of garlic in 2015. In the following years, the number of households growing garlic in Xinglongdian Village increased year by year. This year, among the village's 420 households, nearly 200 have planted garlic, with a planting area reaching 1,700 mu, accounting for nearly 40% of the village's 4,300 mu of cultivated land. The village's total garlic output will reach more than 3 million jin, and at current market prices these garlic can be sold for more than 10 million yuan. Once scale was formed and the name became known, sales channels opened up. Today, garlic growers in the village can sell out their garlic right at their doorstep. During the reporter's interview, at the village committee square, several villagers who had just sold their garlic were helping buyers dry the garlic. A Sichuan distributor purchasing this batch told the reporter that the batch of garlic they bought could be loaded and shipped immediately. Garlic produced in Beizhen is of good quality and is very popular in their local area. An area of more than 1,000 mu, an output value of over 10 million. The small garlic bulb has brought generous returns to local villagers. This is precisely a microcosm of Beizhen farmers aiming at market demand, vigorously adjusting the planting structure, and carrying out agricultural supply-side reform. As for the future, village Party secretary Zhao Yuqin is even more full of confidence: in order to support farmers in growing garlic, the village is preparing to provide electricity and drill wells for the people.
