Nowadays, the quality of life of urban dwellers is getting higher and higher, and many people keep a few plants, flowers and so on at home. So here is the question: how should home-grown flowers be managed? Especially in the gradually warming spring, let us learn together below about the precautions for spring care of home-grown flowers.

1. Moving them outdoors must be timely

In early spring, do not rush to move flowers outdoors. Spring temperatures are changeable and the wind is strong, and cold spells often strike; moving plants outdoors too early can easily cause leaf drop, or the death of branches or the whole plant. In the Xingtai-Handan area of southern Hebei Province, potted flowers are generally moved outdoors around Qingming. Before moving them outdoors, open the windows for ventilation around midday so they gradually adapt to the outdoor environment, then move them to a wind-sheltered, sunny spot outdoors. If the weather suddenly turns cold or strong winds occur, move them back indoors promptly, and move them out again after the weather improves.

2. Fertilizer and water management

For watering potted flowers in spring, grasp the principle of "do not water if the soil is not dry; when you water, water thoroughly." The best time to water is between 10:00 am and 16:00 pm. At the same time, in addition to normal watering, spray the branches, leaves and surrounding ground with clean water in the morning and evening. When the plant has not yet sprouted in spring, water with clean water only and do not fertilize; after new buds grow, apply a relatively dilute liquid fertilizer, mainly nitrogen fertilizer. As the plant grows, the amount of fertilizer and water can be gradually increased. Fertilizers are mainly liquid fertilizers and granular compound fertilizers; if using composted manure, it must be fully decomposed. Fertilizing should be done on a clear evening. Loosen the soil before fertilizing, wait until the potting soil is slightly dry before fertilizing, and immediately spray the leaf surfaces with clean water after fertilizing to prevent the fertilizer solution from contaminating the leaf surfaces.

3. Repot and change the soil in time

For potted flowers that have been planted for 1-2 years, if the pot is too small, they need to be repotted and topped up with soil to increase soil nutrients and improve soil permeability. Different types of flowers are repotted at different times. For example, herbaceous perennial flowers should be repotted in early spring before new buds sprout, while those that bloom in early spring should be repotted after flowering. For repotting soil, generally use loose humus soil. Along with repotting, a pruning of side branches can be carried out, cutting off diseased and dead branches, or overly long branches, and promptly removing unwanted young buds. Flowers such as clivia and orchids can be divided during repotting.

All right, that is all about the precautions for spring management of home-grown flowers. Fellow flower growers, be sure to pay attention to the changeable spring temperatures; in order to help flowers adapt to environmental changes, do a good job of spring flower care and management.
