Can Spider Plants Be Grown in Water? Hydroponic Methods and Precautions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Spider plants can be grown in water. Not only is the ornamental value better, thanks to the contrast of the transparent water; it is also more hygienic, because there is no need to water frequently. However, some issues need attention: the roots need to be half submerged in water, not fully submerged; for fertilizing, it is best to use a nutrient solution, and not apply it too frequently - once a month is enough.

1. Whether It Is Possible

Of course spider plants can be grown in water. Moreover, many people have already experimented with this, and the results were very successful. In fact, this practice is very common.

2. Benefits of Growing in Water

(1) First, the ornamental value is relatively strong. Plants grown in water generally have stronger ornamental value than those grown in soil, because of the contrast of the transparent water. If you add a nice-looking container, that is even better.

(2) Second, this is also more hygienic. When watering plants grown in soil, a moment of carelessness can splash water everywhere. Plants grown in water do not have this concern.

3. Precautions for Growing in Water

(1) Changing the water is very important. Different seasons have different intervals. In spring and autumn, generally once every one to ten days. In summer, the frequency should be higher, generally once every five to seven days. In winter, it does not need to be so frequent - about once every ten days to half a month is fine. The water cannot be taken directly from the tap and used right away; it generally needs to sit for two to three days, until the chlorine inside has mostly dissipated, before use.

(2) Pay attention to the position of the plant's roots - they cannot all be submerged in water; keeping half in the water is enough. Otherwise, it is not good for absorbing air, and the plant's growth will accordingly be weaker.

(3) Plants grown in water also need fertilizer, but in liquid form, that is, nutrient solution. Generally, twice a month is enough. The amount should not be too much.

(4) In addition, attention should also be paid to ventilation, which can promote its growth.
