Sweet dragon bamboo planting in Dinosaur Mountain Town increases greenery and income

Dajiudu Village and Lizhenzhuang Village of the Jiudu Village Committee, located in the northwest of Dinosaur Mountain Town, are known as "Little Jiangnan of Lufeng" because of the winding Xingxiu River, the endless bamboo forest, and the humid climate. In 2012, the People's Government of Dinosaur Mountain Town introduced a new variety of sweet dragon bamboo for trial planting in Jiudu. Because the trial planting was successful, by 2015 sweet dragon bamboo will reach a planting scale of 500 mu in Dinosaur Mountain Town, and bamboo will become a new highlight for local farmers' income growth as a characteristic industry.

In 2017, Dinosaur Mountain Town was listed by the county party committee and government as a township-wide poverty alleviation township. Throughout the year, three village committees, Ganchong, Duwafang, and Ana, were lifted out of poverty, involving 177 households and 667 people exiting poverty, an arduous and heavy task. Through exploration and demonstration-driven efforts, the town party committee and government focused on developing a number of characteristic and advantageous industries to enhance the sustained income growth capacity of registered poor households. A planned investment of 1 million yuan is intended to complete a pig breeding project; a planned investment of 350,000 yuan for a meat donkey breeding project is underway. In order to make full use of the town's climatic advantages and give play to the people's experience, it is planned to plant a batch of sweet dragon bamboo. After extensive coordination, striving and investigation, it was decided to establish a 100-mu sweet dragon bamboo demonstration base on both banks of the Xinzhuang River from Huangjia Village to Heini Gou in Ganchong Village Committee, so as to drive the town's bamboo industry construction work. The entire project requires a total of 590,000 yuan in funds, with the town government, village committee, and the people investing 420,000 yuan, and the county forestry bureau coordinating and subsidizing project funds of 170,000 yuan.

At present, the bamboo is growing well. In two or three years, a bamboo forest landscape will appear again on both banks of the Xinzhuang River, greening and beautifying the homeland, broadening the channels for the people to increase income, and leading the people out of poverty toward a moderately prosperous life.
