Fruit tree fertilization difficult with unclear results? Mastering this one point is enough

Growing fruit trees: Fertilization very difficult? Results not obvious? Actually, just grasp this one point and you're set!

Every time fertilization is discussed, many farmers feel troubled - applying too early doesn't work, and applying too late doesn't work either. Recently, Xiao Zhang, who grows pears, said on social media that his pear trees have reached the swelling stage again and wanted some advice from friends. Today we've invited a senior agronomist to share how to properly apply the swelling fertilizer. Let's take a look below.

At this current stage, the pear trees are in the flower bud formation phase. In about half a month, the earlier-maturing varieties will enter the rapid growth period, so fertilization at this time is very important.

The swelling stage generally requires two fertilizer applications. One in early June, and one in late June to early July. For the early June application, we can use a fertilizer with a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium ratio of 1:0.5:1.

If phosphorus and potassium are deficient during this period, the quality of flower bud formation will deteriorate. The quality of flower bud formation is closely related to the yield and quality of the following year.

For a typical one mu of land, if the yield is around six thousand jin, it is recommended to apply eighty to one hundred jin. Apply the second round half a month later, roughly in late June or early July. For this application, we can use a fertilizer with a higher potassium content, because potassium fertilizer has a good effect on fruit swelling.

By ensuring these two fertilizer applications in June, it should be safe to say that flower bud formation, the nutritional status of the tree, including fruit quality and yield, will all be fine.

If you are growing late-maturing varieties, the timing should be appropriately delayed. Generally, two applications are also used, but since it is currently the flower formation stage, it is recommended to apply a flower-forming fertilizer this time.

Apply the swelling-stage fertilizer from mid-July to late July, and apply the second fruit-swelling fertilizer in early August. The fertilizer amount is the same as for early-maturing varieties.

Fertilizing this way can meet the nutrient demands of pear trees for flower bud differentiation, tree growth, and fruit swelling.

That's all for today's sharing. If you have any questions about today's content, or if you have other questions during the process of growing pears, you can ask in the comment section below.
