How to grow Murraya paniculata? Detailed guide to cultivation methods and precautions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
When growing Murraya paniculata, use loose soil as much as possible, give it plenty of light every day, and fertilize once each in spring and autumn; do not apply nitrogen fertilizer on its own. Propagation is mostly done by cuttings, and common pests and diseases should also be prevented and controlled, spraying with pesticide as soon as they are found.

I. Growing environment

1. Soil: When growing Murraya paniculata, use loose soil as much as possible; if soil with a heavy clay content is used, root rot is very likely to occur.

2. Light: It is suited to growing in an environment with plenty of light, so give it plenty of light every day and let it grow on a balcony or in a sunny courtyard; however, in midsummer it needs a little shade, as overly strong sunlight can easily scorch its leaves yellow.

3. Fertilizing: During the growing season, fertilize once each in spring and autumn, preferably with fully rotted fertilizer; do not apply nitrogen fertilizer on its own, as this will cause the branches and leaves to grow leggy and the flowers to become fewer. Stop fertilizing when it enters the dormant period.

II. Propagation methods

Cutting propagation: It is best done in summer and autumn. When taking cuttings, choose healthy growing branches about 10-15 cm long, insert them into plain sand and just keep the soil moist. If taking cuttings in autumn, it is best to cover them with plastic film to ensure sufficient humidity.

III. Common pests and diseases

The common diseases of Murraya paniculata are powdery mildew and leaf spot, and the common pests are red spider mites and scale insects. After finding that the plant has been attacked by pests or diseases, spray with pesticide as soon as possible. For diseases, carbendazim or chlorothalonil can be used for control; for pests, omethoate emulsion is generally used for spraying and killing.
