What are the reasons a Kalanchoe (florist kalanchoe) does not bloom?
1. Pot too large
Cause: the larger the pot, the more freely the plant's roots grow, consuming a large amount of nutrients, which leads to sparse, narrow, small leaves and few or no flowers.
Solution: transplant the plant into a pot of suitable size and care for it with appropriate light and water.
2. Lack of nutrients
Cause: Kalanchoe is a plant that loves fertilizer and needs a lot of nutrients. If it is not fertilized, flower bud differentiation is slow and it is difficult for it to grow. Solution: from Frost's Descent to October of the following year is the flower bud differentiation period for Kalanchoe, and nutrients need to be supplemented, applying a phosphorus- and potassium-based fish emulsion fertilizer once a week and a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizer once a month.
3. Unsuitable temperature
Cause: this flower is native to Africa and loves a warm, humid environment. During the winter and spring flowering season, temperatures above 24°C inhibit flowering, and if they are below 5°C, the flowering period is delayed.
Solution: keep it at 15-25°C during growth. In winter the indoor temperature should be 12-15°C and must not fall below 5°C. If it stays around 15°C all winter, the plant can be guaranteed to bloom continuously.
4. Unsuitable light
Cause: strong direct sunlight or insufficient light causes the plant to wilt and reduces flowering.
Solution: Kalanchoe loves sunlight, so place it in a sunny spot such as a balcony, ensure at least 4 hours of light per day with even exposure, and also avoid strong direct sunlight.
