What are the reasons for snake plant leaves becoming soft?

The reasons for snake plant leaves becoming soft include strong light exposure, frequent watering, temperatures that are too low, and pests and diseases. If it is strong light exposure, move the plant to a shaded place; if watering is too frequent, reduce the number of waterings; if the temperature is too low, appropriately raise the temperature to around 20-30°C; if it is infected by pests and diseases, promptly remove the diseased leaves and spray with flower medicine.

1. Strong light exposure

Cause: The snake plant is a shade-tolerant plant and does not need excessive sunlight. Under direct strong light or exposure to the sun, sunburn spots or yellow leaves will form, causing symptoms such as soft leaves.

Solution: Move the plant to a shaded, ventilated place to grow it or provide shade treatment, and choose the times of morning and evening when the light is soft to place it in a sunny spot.

2. Frequent watering

Cause: It is a desert plant and does not need excessive water. Watering too frequently will lead to phenomena such as root rot and yellow leaves.

Solution: When watering, follow the principle of preferring dry over wet. If the soil is loose, water 1-2 times a week, and in winter watering once a week is sufficient. If there is already too much standing water, place it in a ventilated place and elevate the bottom of the pot.

3. Temperature too low

Cause: It has relatively high temperature requirements. Generally, when the temperature is below 13°C, it will enter dormancy and stop growing. Over time, this leads to poor plant growth and leaves becoming soft and yellow.

Solution: Keep the temperature at 20-30°C as much as possible, which can maintain its normal growth; in winter, the lowest temperature should not be lower than 10°C, otherwise the plant will suffer cold damage, very easily causing the entire plant to die.

4. Pests and diseases

Cause: Infection by some pests and diseases can also cause the leaves to become soft, such as bacterial soft rot. This disease causes the plant's leaves to appear light yellow-green or grayish-yellow, and water-soaked soft rot spots will appear on the stem base near the ground.

Solution: Remove the diseased leaves promptly, and spray with 600-fold diluted green copper emulsion, spraying once every 7-10 days, for 1-2 consecutive months.
