What to Do About Root Rot in Baby's Breath? Cause Analysis and Remedies
1. Reduce Watering
Cause: If the amount of watering is not controlled well and too much water is given, baby's breath cannot absorb it; combined with poor drainage of the potting soil, waterlogging easily occurs. In addition, when the rainy season lasts too long, excessive water accumulation can also cause the roots to rot.
Solution: Take drainage measures promptly, reduce the amount of watering in normal times, and control the watering frequency well so that no waterlogging occurs. Especially during the rainy season, it is best to move it indoors to grow; if it gets rained on, take drainage measures as soon as possible.
2. Replace the Soil
Cause: When the soil aeration is poor, the roots of baby's breath cannot breathe, which leads to rot. Soil with poor drainage easily produces waterlogging, and once waterlogging occurs, the roots easily rot.
Solution: Replace it with suitable soil, preferably loose soil with good drainage and aeration. This not only helps baby's breath grow but also prevents root rot from occurring.
3. Prevent and Control Pests
Cause: If it is grown outdoors, pest problems easily occur. Once pests bite through the roots of baby's breath, or wounds appear, bacteria can multiply and cause root rot.
Solution: Promptly spray with an insecticide to kill the pests, and fertilize it appropriately to increase its ability to resist pests and diseases. After root rot occurs, promptly cut off the rotten parts, disinfect them, and then replant.
