What to Do About Tulip Root Rot? Cause Analysis and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
There are many causes of root rot in tulips: if it is caused by excessive watering, then reduce the amount of watering appropriately and keep the watering frequency under control. If it is caused by poorly aerated soil, then replace it with loose, well-aerated soil. If it is caused by too much fertilizer, then keep the fertilizer amount under control.

1. Reduce watering

Cause: Long-term overwatering causes the roots to lack oxygen and be unable to breathe normally, and also leads to root rot.

Solution: Reduce the amount of watering appropriately and keep the watering frequency under control. After overwatering, you can loosen the soil a bit and place it in a ventilated spot.

2. Replace the soil

Cause: If the soil has poor aeration, the roots can easily be unable to breathe, and combined with a damp environment, this can very easily cause the roots to rot.

Solution: Replace it with loose, well-aerated soil as soon as possible, so the tulip roots can breathe more smoothly.

3. Fertilize in moderation

Cause: Too much fertilizer or too high a concentration will burn the tulip's roots, and the leaves will also turn yellow.

Solution: Keep the fertilizer amount under control, and do not make the fertilizer concentration too high. If too much fertilizer was applied, you can water a bit more so the excess fertilizer is flushed out as soon as possible.

4. How to handle severe root rot

Take the tulip's roots out of the potting soil, use sterilized tools to cut away the rotted parts, then disinfect them. After disinfecting, rinse them clean with water, let them dry, and then replant them in the potting soil.
