Can you make money growing scallions this year? Farmers need to master the knowledge for high-yield scallion cultivation

General News 0 views
Everyone says growing scallions is profitable this year, and farmers need to master the basic knowledge for high-yield scallion cultivation

Yesterday a farmer sent me a message: "Teacher Fu, these past two years, whatever crop I plant, I lose money on it. This year I want to make a complete change. I've heard that growing scallions has been pretty good economically these past two years, and I want to grow scallions. Everyone says that to get high scallion yields and high selling prices, mastering the planting density of scallions is key. Could you help explain the planting density for scallions, and what density is more suitable?"

In fact, the planting density of scallions varies completely depending on the scallion variety, the cultivation method, and the product requirements. A reasonable scallion planting density can effectively improve the marketability and yield of scallions.

Today I can only introduce this to growers based on some of my commonly used experiences and patterns for scallion planting density.

If farmers are growing tall-white scallion varieties, it is best to plant them sparsely; if growing short-white scallion varieties, plant them densely;

In terms of planting methods, if farmers plant scallions in furrows, the density should be lower; if planting scallions in beds, the density should be higher.

If farmers are cultivating small scallions, the density should be higher; when cultivating large scallions, the density should be lower; for small scallions with a long growth period, the density should be lower than for those with a short growth period.

These are the common patterns for scallion planting density. The specific scallion planting methods are as follows:

(1) Furrow planting for scallion cultivation

For tall-white scallion varieties, a furrow spacing of 80?100 cm is suitable. The reason is that if the furrow spacing is too narrow, it is not conducive to earthing up the scallions, and if it is too wide, land use is unreasonable, affecting the scallion yield per unit area. Plant 18000?22000 scallions per mu;

For cultivating short-white scallion varieties, a furrow spacing of 50?70 cm is best, planting 22000?28000 scallions per mu.

(2) Bed planting for small scallions

Common small scallions are grown in flat beds by row planting or cluster planting. For row planting, the row spacing is 20 cm and the plant spacing is 3?5 cm, planting 60000?80000 plants per mu; for cluster planting, the cluster spacing is 20 cm, with 3?5 plants per cluster.
