Qingtang Village rolls out new measures for poverty alleviation as rice cultivation returns to the ancient village

Luliang News, Yellow River News Network (Li Hao, Song Dongdong, Liu Xuan)Qingtang Village in Linxian County, Luliang City is a little Jiangnan in western Shanxi, with abundant water resources, excellent water quality and rich products. In addition to the county's ordinary crops, it has several hundred mu of reed fields and dozens of mu of fish ponds, and a long history of rice cultivation. In recent years, Qingtang Village has vigorously developed rural tourism and restored the long-lost rice cultivation. Right now is a good season for rice planting, and the villagers are seizing the favorable opportunity to transplant rice seedlings.

At the rice seedling transplanting site in Qingtang Village, villagers in rain boots are busy planting rice seedlings in the paddy fields. Their movements are skilled, and before long the fields present a scene of lush green.

It is understood that by the end of the last century, the rice planting area in Qingtang Village reached 100 mu, and the price was nearly double the market rice price. Due to the drop in the water level, gravity-flow water became pumped irrigation, and for various reasons this specialty crop was left uncultivated by anyone. In recent years, with the development of Qingtang, especially the building of a tourism village and the creation of a little Jiangnan in Linxian County, the village committee has made rice cultivation a breakthrough point for the people's targeted poverty alleviation.

Wang Bin is a pioneer in rice cultivation in the village. Last year he contracted improved paddy land from the village's two committees and planted rice. His income increased significantly. This year, he expanded the paddy land to more than 20 mu and continued to plant rice.

He did the accounting for us: rice yields 1000 jin per mu, which can be milled into about 700 jin of rice. At 10 yuan per jin, that brings in 7000 yuan per mu. Each mu can provide 3000 yuan in labor income, with other expenses of 1500 yuan, leaving a net income of about 2000 yuan per mu. That is, each mu can bring farmers nearly 5000 yuan in income.

Next, Qingtang Village plans to develop a 100-mu green rice planting base. It will truly build Qingtang into a little Jiangnan with green mountains and clear waters, featuring water, rice, fish and reed forests, creating another scenic attraction for the development of rural tourism and adding an income point for targeted poverty alleviation.
