Why doesn't your pitcher plant grow pitchers? Grow it this way to get pitchers
The pitcher plant (Nepenthes) is a rather special plant. Its special feature is that it has a unique organ——the pitcher, an organ that can break down the nutrients inside insects and absorb them for its own use. As one of the few carnivorous plants, it is grown by quite a few people in China. But some people wonder: they have grown their pitcher plant for a year or two, so why has it still not produced any pitchers? Today Qinnong Network will explain how to grow pitcher plants so they produce pitchers.

From sowing to producing pitchers, a pitcher plant needs at least 18 months. If you have not been growing it for 18 months yet, then it simply has not reached the pitcher-forming growth stage. If that time has passed and it still has not grown any, then you should consider the following reasons.
1. No plant of the opposite sex
Pitcher plants are dioecious plants, so two plants of different sexes are required for pollination. In the wild, male pitcher plants make up about 70% and females about 30%. Because pitcher plants grow in low-latitude regions, where there is no obvious distinction between the four seasons, they can flower all year round; as long as the stem of the upper pitcher can form, they may flower. If a potted pitcher plant has only one plant or several plants of the same sex, it will very likely be unable to produce pitchers, so just make sure you have both male and female plants.
2. Water and fertilizer do not meet the needs for pitcher formation
If the growing environment does not meet the needs of the pitcher plant, then it will not easily grow pitchers either. Pitcher plants like a highly humid environment with plenty of light. The growing environment must not be too dry, otherwise it will not form pitchers. When growing them, pay attention to watering, but do not let it become so wet that root rot occurs.
Improper fertilizing can also cause pitcher plants not to form pitchers. If you fertilize too much, the soil will become compacted; if you fertilize too little, nutrients will be insufficient and it will be unable to form pitchers. When growing pitcher plants, you can apply fertilizer once every half month, but it should be a weak fertilizer.
3. Temperature too low
When growing pitcher plants, if the growing temperature is too low, growth will stop. The suitable growing temperature for pitcher plants is between 25°C——30°C, and in winter the temperature must not be lower than 16°C, otherwise the pitcher plant will begin to stop growing.
In addition, when the weather is rather hot, you need to spray water at night to cool it down, ensuring a relatively large temperature difference between day and night, which is beneficial to the growth of the pitcher plant.
4. Changing location frequently
If you frequently change the growing location of the pitcher plant, it may also fail to form pitchers. So do not constantly change the environment for your pitcher plant. Even if your current environment is not very ideal, as long as you patiently wait for it to adapt to its surroundings, it will still keep producing pitchers.
The above is Qinnong Network's summary of the reasons why pitcher plants do not grow pitchers. Pitcher plants like a hot and humid environment and are relatively suitable for growing in southern China. If the growing environment is suitable, pitcher plants can also grow very large, so when planting, it is best to first choose a suitable spot for it to grow, and afterward do not casually change its growing environment.
