Expanding Transnational Surveying and Mapping Cooperation: First-ever Surveying and Mapping Cooperation Agreement Signed with Indonesia

On the morning of the 20th, the Ministry of the Interior, with Minister of the Interior Yeh Jiunn-rong personally presiding, held the signing ceremony for the "Geodetic Surveying and Spatial Information Mapping Cooperation Agreement" between our country and Indonesia, signed by Chen Chung, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia, and Robert, Representative of the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office in Taipei. Minister Yeh Jiunn-rong stated that the signing of this surveying and mapping cooperation agreement is the first transnational cooperation agreement Taiwan has ever signed on surveying and mapping work. In addition to continuing to work with Indonesia to advance the field of surveying and mapping, it will also actively expand the scope of transnational cooperation to facilitate the further development of surveying and mapping work.

The Ministry of the Interior pointed out that, in order to implement the government's New Southbound Policy, on July 10 of this year (2017), it held the "2017 New Southbound Surveying and Mapping and Spatial Information International Forum," supporting through concrete action the domestic launch of the "Surveying and Mapping and Spatial Information Industry-Academia Southbound Cooperation Platform," promoting transnational spatial surveying and mapping industry-government-academia cooperation, and accelerating regional development in ASEAN. The Trade Division Director of the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office in Taipei was also present at the time to offer greetings, and discussed ideas for future cooperation between the two sides, which in turn helped bring about the negotiation and signing of this agreement.

The Ministry of the Interior emphasized that this agreement is the first time Taiwan and Indonesia have established a cooperative relationship in the field of surveying and mapping. The content of the agreement was jointly discussed and drafted by both sides and signed after being submitted to and approved by the Executive Yuan. It focuses on the fields of geodetic surveying and spatial information mapping, and the cooperation items include human resource development for both sides, mutual support in technology and equipment, and other related scientific, economic, trade and industrial development matters. It is of considerable benefit to promoting the cooperative development of the Taiwan-Indonesia surveying and mapping field, mutual consultation and technical exchange, and supporting our country's industries in opening up the Indonesian market.
