Exchange receipts for vegetables: Taichung "Urban Food Forest" results-sharing event does charity
The Taichung City Low-Carbon City Promotion Office has completed the establishment of 10 urban food forest demonstration sites this year, including 1 demonstration site, 2 agencies, 4 schools and 3 communities. Yesterday (the 21st), a results-sharing event was held at the Dali District Household Registration Office, inviting various agencies to share their experience and harvests in urban farming. At the same time, a "Donate Receipts, Urban Food Forest Gives Vegetables" activity was also held, with all collected receipts donated to the Eden Social Welfare Foundation, putting into practice the low-carbon dietary concept of "eat local, eat in season."
At the results-sharing event, Liu Chun-ti, secretary of the Low-Carbon Office, presented demonstration site plaques one by one to the 10 demonstration sites of this year, symbolizing that all demonstration sites have been completed this year, and that the urban food forest seeds will begin to grow strong. Together, attendees also picked seasonal vegetables at the rooftop farm of the Dali Household Registration Office and held the "Donate Receipts, Urban Food Forest Gives Vegetables" activity to promote the "share the harvest" spirit of the urban food forest. City councilor Li Tien-sheng also made a special trip to the event in support.
Members of the public could exchange 5 receipts for one bunch of urban food forest vegetables, for a total of 80 bunches. All receipts collected during this event will also be donated to the Eden Social Welfare Foundation, inviting the public to do good together and pass on the caring, sharing spirit of the urban food forest.
The Low-Carbon Office said that, as of now, Taichung has reached 165 urban food forest growing sites, with 578 ping of rooftop-type area and 16,834 ping of flat-type area. The total carbon reduction is estimated at 1,134 metric tons, equivalent to the annual carbon sequestration effect of 3 Daan Forest Parks. Rooftop farms also have the benefit of lowering building temperatures and reducing energy consumption. In the future, resources will continue to be integrated to establish more urban food forest sites, making Taichung a livable city that is low-carbon, aesthetic and healthy.
