Tea roses bloom in all four seasons; the Taipei Rose Garden is fragrant all year round

In 2017, a new Classic Rose Area was added to the Rose Garden in the Xinsheng Park of the Huabo Park, with a large number of tea roses and other multi-flowering rose varieties planted. After a year of intensive and careful care by the Parks and Street Lights Office of the Taipei City Public Works Department, the plants are full of buds and continue to bloom through the cold winter. The public is welcome to enjoy the winter sunshine and come to the Rose Garden to admire the roses. Strolling through the Rose Garden is like walking into a 17th- and 18th-century European court garden, immersing visitors in a romantic atmosphere of floral fragrance. It not only relaxes body and mind, but is also a feast for the eyes!

The Taipei City Parks and Street Lights Office stated that roses are difficult to cultivate in Taiwan, but after 7 years of land preparation and trial planting, the Taipei Rose Garden has gradually overcome various challenges. Through meticulous and detailed management and cultivation, it has grown more than 700 varieties of roses in total. So that the public can enjoy a richer, more floriferous rose experience, a Classic Rose Area was newly established in the 2017 fiscal year. The area contains nearly 100 kinds of old roses, most of which are tea roses with good flowering performance and graceful appearance. They not only bloom in all four seasons, but also have the excellent characteristics of a faint tea fragrance and soft, beautiful colors, making this the first rose garden in Taiwan and abroad designed around the theme of classic roses!

Lin Xianda, director of the Yuanshan Park Management Office, said that tea roses have a long and profound cultural and historical significance. Their early parent stock came from the multi-flowering, ever-blooming and robust China rose (Rosa chinensis), which, along with East-West commercial trade, was introduced to Europe and crossed with many famous English roses and French roses, giving rise to the Tea Rose (Tea Rose), which adapts to warm southern environments, blooms continuously, has a graceful appearance and carries a light, fragrant scent. Later, tea roses were further bred and crossed to produce many cut-flower and shrub-type roses inheriting their excellent characteristics, opening a splendid page in the world of roses! The Classic Rose Area, located at the plaza beside the Yiqing Garden in Xinsheng Park, accumulated more than 30 varieties and 500 tea rose plants in just one short year in its first wave, and they are growing robustly with abundant buds, their flowers swaying in the wind as they await honored guests who come to admire their beauty. Taipei Rose Garden location: Xinsheng Park of the Huabo Park (No. 105, Section 3, Xinsheng North Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City).
